YouTube Is Investigating Weird Low-Quality Video Playback On IOS

YouTube is undoubtedly one of the best sources of entertainment out there. You can enjoy all sorts of content on the platform, and it’s great for the most part. While Google regularly pushes updates to keep things smooth, YouTube has troubled users on many occasions. Now, it appears that YouTube app users on iOS are dealing with low-quality playback issues when watching regular videos or Shorts.

YouTube has acknowledged the low-quality video playback issue faced by iOS users

As reported by 9to5Google, the issue is widespread and is not limited to iOS. This is because YouTube users on iPadOS are also facing low-quality playback issues. Apparently, YouTube videos are loading only in 240p and 360p, and in some cases 144p, leading to a terrible viewing experience.

While the exact cause is unknown, a Reddit user claims to have experienced this issue after a recent iOS update pushed by Apple. As the news spread like wildfire, Google acknowledged the users’ concern and said that it has been investigating the issue causing low-quality playback.

In a Community Help forum post, Google notes, “We’re aware some of you are experiencing lower than usual video quality when trying to watch Videos and Shorts.” Other than on iOS, the low-quality playback issue is affecting YouTube users on desktops and even smart TVs.

A fix for the issue may be on the way

It’s worth noting that Google has assured users that it’s actively looking into this issue. When such an issue plagues an app or service, companies generally push an update to fix it. The same could be the case in this regard. Well, Google hasn’t pushed any fix just yet, but we expect it to be on the way.

The company also notes that it will update the Community Help forum post when there is new information available. If you are among the affected YouTube users on iOS, we understand the frustration of experiencing low-quality video playback. But, all you can do for now is wait for a fix to roll out.
