Summary
- YouTube’s comment section is currently experiencing a widespread bug, causing comments to be missing, hidden, or unsortable for a large number of users.
- This marks the second significant issue for YouTube in a week, with many users reporting problems on platforms like X (Twitter) and Reddit since Sunday, June 8.
- YouTube is aware of the comment bug and is actively investigating it.
If you’re a YouTube aficionado, you have likely already spotted this recent bug on the streaming platform.
For those that haven’t used the platform recently, or for those that don’t stray away from the main video content, YouTube comments are currently broken for a large number of users on the platform. This marks the second major YouTube issue in the span of a week after a bug in the platform’s Android app caused key UI elements to disappear.

For what it’s worth, the new comment section bug doesn’t affect all users — I haven’t encountered it yet either. However, it is widespread, and not an isolated incident.
Multiple disgruntled users on X (Twitter) have reported the bug, and the same goes for users on Reddit (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). The bulk of issues were reported on Sunday, June 8, and today, June 9. Some report not seeing comments at all, while others say that they can only see 2–3 comments at the top. All this despite the videos in question having 100s of comments in some cases.
YouTube is working on a fix
Some users also suggest that sorting comments by “Newest first” fixes the issue, but then it prevents you from being able to see and engage with the most relevant top comments.
YouTube knows of the bug and is currently “looking into it.” Its support post update has nearly 3,000 upvotes since being shared roughly four hours ago. According to the streaming giant, here’s what users may currently be experiencing:
- Unable to sort comments by “Top Comments.”
- Missing/Invisible comments.
- Comments have disappeared or are hidden when “Top Comments” is selected.
- Comments are only visible when “Newest First” is chosen.
- Comments simply aren’t showing up.
- Comments disappeared after being posted.
The exact cause of the widespread comment section disruption remains unclear for now. For what it’s worth, YouTube is normally quick to fix such issues. Early in May, creators on the streaming platform experienced problems uploading new videos and Shorts. The issue was fixed the very next day, and we’re hoping for a similar swift resolution this time around.
