Xiaomi 16 Could Get A Major Camera Upgrade

The Xiaomi 16 could get a major camera upgrade, it seems. Based on a new rumor from China, from a trusted source, the Xiaomi 16 could finally get a periscope telephoto camera, to be more in line with its more powerful siblings.

The Xiaomi 16 could get a major camera upgrade later this year

As you may already know, the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro have already been announced. The thing is, they launched in China only, their global launch is expected to occur in Q1 this year. It will most probably happen during MWC in Barcelona.

In any case, the Xiaomi 15, much like its predecessor, doesn’t have a periscope telephoto camera. It has a main camera, backed by an ultrawide unit, and a telephoto snapper. The addition of a periscope telephoto camera to the Xiaomi 16 will be most welcomed.

Xiaomi probably wants to make its vanilla smartphone more compelling to consumers. Both the Vivo X200 and OPPO Find X8 have periscope telephoto cameras. So the company is already a year behind, in a way.

If this rumor ends up being true, all three Xiaomi 16 smartphones will have a periscope telephoto camera

If this rumor ends up being true, all three members of the Xiaomi 16 series will have a periscope telephoto camera. That goes for the Xiaomi 16, Xiaomi 16 Pro, and Xiaomi 16 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 15 Pro does include a periscope telephoto camera, and the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra is also expected to utilize it, as its predecessor does. The Xiaomi 16 series is not expected to arrive until Q4 this year, however, so we’re still a long way from that point.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s successor is expected to fuel the Xiaomi 16 series. Xiaomi always jumps to the latest processor from Qualcomm, and it’s always amongst the first to do so. Unfortunately, it does take Xiaomi quite a bit of time to launch its flagships globally.
