Xiaomi 15 Ultra Goes Official With Boldest Camera Bump Yet

After teasers showcasing Xiaomi’s upcoming phone cropped up, it was clear the company was set on creating a device that took photography all too seriously. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is exactly that, and it carries a camera bump that would make mirrorless cameras cry.

Of course, phone camera arrays are still a ways away from delivering the quality that a handheld mirrorless or DSLR can, but OEMs are really trying. The new Xiaomi 15 Ultra pays homage to the 35mm camera of old, with a colorway that carries a silver stripe along the back of the phone. Xiaomi paid a lot of attention to what camera hardware made its way into the phone, though the overall spec sheet doesn’t seem to change much.

The phone takes on a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, as expected. The chipset is accompanied by 12GB or 16GB of RAM, which is in line with what other flagships are offering. Above that sits an AMOLED panel that comes in at 6.73 inches with a resolution of 3200 x 1440. It can hit a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, as can most other flagship displays now.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra model emphasizes the camera array, as is expected with the design that the company went with. There are a total of four units in the array, including a main wide-angle, ultra-wide, and telephoto unit that all come in at 50MP. There’s nothing inherently special there, but they’re entirely overshadowed by the newly designed 200MP periscope telephoto lens. The lens is able to offer better results in lower light and brings a higher-resolution image.

The colorway is inspired by film cameras, and it’s one of those novelty designs that actually looks great. The camera array is massive, but it almost looks normal, sandwiched between the black faux leather bottom and top silver portion. “Ultra” is written in the corner and gives the camera a unique Leica look, as is branded on the camera itself.

The phone also carries a 6,00mAh battery, which should appease most users as that’s not a bad metric. It comes with 90W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. The phone is also run by Android 15 through HyperOS 2.0.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra comes in at 6,499 yuan in China with the device likely to go global on March 2.
