Microsoft just held their latest Xbox Developer Direct, and one of the big surprises of the livestream was a shadow drop for the launch of the Ninja Gaiden 2 remake, officially called Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. There were several other announcements as well, including Ninja Gaiden 4, which is being co-developed by Team Ninja and Platinum Games, and launches this Fall. DOOM fans also got a nice little surprise with the release date announcement for DOOM: The Dark Ages.
The game will be released on May 15, and it’ll be available for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. It’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. So if you subscribe to that service, you don’t have to buy the game. Additionally, Microsoft announced launch dates for South of Midnight and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. South of a Midnight is a third-person action-adventure game rooted in Southern Gothic folklore, and it launches on April 8. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG set in 19th-century France, and it launches on April 24.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black gets a launch across all platforms
If you’re a fan of the old-school Ninja Gaiden games from Team Ninja, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised with this remake. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is redone in Unreal Engine 5 to give the original game a huge graphical boost. It’s also currently available to download across all major platforms, excluding the Nintendo Switch for obvious reasons. You can pick up the game now on PS5, Steam, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S for $49.99. Alternatively, if you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, you can install the game at no additional cost.
New playable characters and features have been added to the game
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is mostly going to be the same as the original in terms of story and gameplay. However, Team Ninja has added some new stuff. There are three new playable characters. Momiji, Ayane, and Rachel. Additionally, there’s a new play mode called Hero Play Style. This mode is intended to provide slight assistance to players in the most challenging encounters. Basically, think of it as an easier easy mode for people who may be new to action games with this level of difficulty.
Some features that were introduced with spin-off titles after the original version of Ninja Gaiden 2 released have been added as well. So all-in-all, it should be a pretty good time for fans of action games, and this particular franchise.
