Google is still making efforts to update and cosmetically change Waze for users, and the newest update on Android adds a themed icon.
Themed icons are a pretty big part of Android, changing how apps look to fit a Material You look that blends UI elements together well. Since rolling out themed icons, it seems to be a process for a lot of apps, and Google was the first developer to add compatibility to most apps. Oddly enough, even though Waze is run by Google, it hasn’t had a themed icon.
Today, Waze has begun rolling out version 5.5.0.1. The new version adds themed icon capability to the app, changing the icon from the traditional blue logo to a matching color scheme. Of course, you need to have themed icons enabled in Android via the wallpaper and customization menu.

It doesn’t appear as though the new update changes much else about the app other than the look from your home screen. This update is separate from the usual themed navigation changes we usually tend to see from the app, though adding a little personality on the home screen is good, too. The Waze 5.5.0.1 update is rolling out widely now.
