Waymo One Is Launching Self-Driving Rides In Washington DC Next Year
Waymo has announced that it will be expanding to yet another new city, with robotaxi services set to begin in Washington DC next year.
In a blog post today, Waymo says that its “fully autonomous ride-hailing service” is coming to Washington DC sometime in 2026. A specific date wasn’t provided, but Waymo says it plans to run the service without a driver behind the wheel.
We’re laying the groundwork for our fully autonomous ride-hailing service after returning to Washington, D.C. earlier this year, and we’ll continue introducing ourselves to D.C.’s communities and emergency responders over the coming months. We’ll also continue to work closely with policymakers to formalize the regulations needed to operate without a human behind the wheel in the District.
Waymo has been testing its vehicles in DC since December 2023, but has yet to launch Waymo One in the capital city.
Waymo One is currently operating in San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Austin with plans to expand to Atlanta and Miami soon.
