Verizon is one of the best wireless carriers in the US. But the landscape has changed so much over the past decade that a lot of the competition has either caught up or surpassed the brand. Wireless carriers like T-Mobile have been working hard to pry customers from Verizon, with an impressive network, perks, and aggressive pricing.

For the most part, it looks like this strategy is working, as customers aren’t sticking with Verizon in 2025, with the brand sharing that it lost 289,000 subscribers in the first quarter of the year. This report comes from Bloomberg, sharing the staggering number, which is double the loss Verizon experienced at the same time one year ago.
Not a good time for Verizon
While this is a huge loss, Verizon did share that some of it was due to the “reductions at some federal agencies,” which were caused by the recent changes implemented by the Trump administration. The news outlet also reports that while competitors like AT&T kept their foot on the pedal even after the holiday rush with its promotions, “Verizon ended its seasonal promotions.”
Of course, prices for services have also been increasing as well, with Verizon upping charges on various plans, fees, and even insurance. But Verizon isn’t the only one, as other carriers have also made changes to plans and pricing as well. However, Verizon isn’t resting on its laurels, and is instead starting off the new quarter strong with a new three-year price lock guarantee, along with improvements to plans that offer better features.
In the same article, Verizon also acknowledged its plans if tariffs manage to increase the prices of equipment. For the most part, customers won’t be happy, as the wireless carrier has shared that it won’t be covering any of the cost, which means it’s going to be up to the consumer whether they are willing to pay the new prices for their mobile phones.
Perhaps the one area where Verizon did shine is with its broadband offering, which has been an area for other major carriers as well. T-Mobile recently made another acquisition in order to expand its current broad network. And as far as what to expect in the near future, well, it looks like satellite communication could become a big thing if carriers can manage to roll it out to all devices.
