The Samsung S25 Edge is the latest mid-cycle smartphone release from Samsung, and it’s got a lot of people talking. What exactly people are saying, though, might not be exactly what Samsung wants to hear: it feels like a relatively lackluster reimagining of the rest of the Galaxy S25 line, even with its thinner design. It’s almost the same device as the rest of the series, even down to the SoC, display type, and resolution, and its offerings of both RAM and storage are standard as well. Although some are saying that it shouldn’t exist or that no one asked for it, there are still a few solid reasons for the Galaxy S25 Edge to be released, even if they aren’t as flashy as one would hope for. If you’re one of the people that likes to be on the bleeding edge of smartphone technology, then time to benefit from Samsung’s preorder bonuses is running out fast.
We originally reported that Samsung preorders for the S25 Edge started in mid-May, and with that came preorder incentives when ordering directly from Samsung’s online store. While different third-party retailers like Amazon or Best Buy may have their own bonuses, Samsung has three specific incentives that will no longer be valid when the device is released tomorrow, May 30. By preordering today, purchasers will receive both a $50 Samsung credit to spend on other products in the store, and a free storage upgrade that will take users from the base 256GB model to the 512GB model. Eligible users that trade in a device when preordering the Galaxy S25 Edge will get up to $630 in trade-in credit, too.
The “whys” and the “why nots”

To understand why someone would be interested in purchasing the Galaxy S25 Edge, we need to know the differences between it and its comparable in the S25 line. Truly, its closest relative is the Galaxy S25+. The S25+ measures 7.3mm thick, while the S25 Edge measures 5.8mm thick. For essentially the exact same internal specs (more on that in a moment), the shrinkage is impressive, and it shows that Samsung is attempting to innovate in efficiency. After that, it makes two major concessions: the camera array is worse on the S25 Edge than on the S25+, and its battery capacity is 1,000mAh less than the S25+ (3,900mAh vs 4,900mAh). Here’s the kicker: the S25 Edge is $100 more expensive than the S25+. Ouch.
Don’t get us wrong, we think that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is impressive tech, but it is in desperate search of a purpose. If you are someone that strives to get the thinnest phone possible, and you use Samsung phones exclusively, then this will be the phone for you. Both with potential overheating issues, a worse battery life, and a lackluster camera system, skipping the Galaxy S25 Edge in lieu of the Galaxy S25+ is probably the better choice. If you’re dead set on buying the S25 Edge, however, AT&T and T-Mobile are practically giving it away when you trade in your old phone.
