This Pixel Ad Mocks The IPhone’s Lack Of AI Prowess

Summary: Google has just posted a new stop-motion Pixel ad that shows off the new Gemini Live with Video feature. The minute-long video could be seen as a dig at the iPhone’s lack of AI features.
Google has been airing a set of creative and comedic ads since 2023. These ads depict an iPhone and the latest Pixel phone as two friends. These ads act as a funny way to both showcase the latest features on Pixel phones and poke fun at what that iPhone lacks.
We’re sure that you’ve seen at least one of these ads, as they’ve been around since the original Pixel Fold debuted. If you’re unfamiliar, then you can go to the official Made by Google X account.
The latest Google ad shows off Gemini Live with Video
If you’re new to sushi, then you’d definitely want something like Gemini Live with Video. This is the latest hot feature from Google. You should be familiar with it if you saw Google I/O last year. The company dubbed it “Project Astra” and showcased it by walking around an office. Basically, this feature allows you to ask Gemini questions in real-time about what you see in your camera viewfinder. It’s a neat feature, and it’s making its way to more Android phones.
In the ad, we see a Pixel 9 hanging out with an iPhone at a sushi restaurant. The iPhone asks to use Gemini on the Pixel- which is Google’s way of saying “Guess what the iPhone CAN’T do!” The iPhone points the Pixel 9 at different types of sushi as they go by and asks what they are. We get a demonstration of Gemini’s question answering capabilities.
The ad closes out with the iPhone falling into a bowl of edamame, as one could expect from these ads. Overall, this is another subtle hint at the types of features that Pixel phones have that iPhones lack. Before, these ads wouldn’t have been so cruel. However, they hit that much harder because of Apple’s massive delays with upgrading Siri. Apple users are waiting to experience Apple Intelligence in full force, but all they’ve gotten are a few poorly functioning AI features that most other phones can do.
