These Online Price Trackers Are Your New Best Friend Amidst Expected Increases

With the introduction of new, increased tariffs on incoming goods into the US, things are likely to get much more expensive. Using a price tracking tool online can help you determine what has and hasn’t increased in price. Here are some of our favorites.

One of the best reasons to use a price checker on sites like Amazon is to determine whether or not the item you’re about to buy has always been that price. With economic shifts like tariffs, goods will tend to increase in price reactionarily, as they get taxed when imported into the US. Generally speaking, those increases are passed to the consumer, and that phone charger that was $20 yesterday might be $40 the next.

A price tracker will examine an item’s history and tell you whether or not a recent increase occurred, which can help inform your decision. As a second benefit, you’ll also be able to see if “deals” are real or synthetic.

Our favorite picks

As a quick note, these price trackers only work for Amazon, which isn’t ideal. There are price trackers out there that will notify you when a price drops, but only the listed options will give you a full history so you can see whether or not the price has jumped recently.

If you’re looking for a basic deal tool that works with a ton of websites, check out Google Chrome’s price alert feature.

CamelCamelCamel

CamelCamelCamel has been a go-to for a while, though it’s begun to show its age a little bit. For the most part, it does a fine job of detailing the price history for products on Amazon. It comes in the form of an extension that activates on Amazon, or you can simply use the website by pasting links. When a link is applied, the price, history, and product details will appear. You’ll even see when the last scan was so you know the information is up-to-date.

CamelCamelCamel is free, and it works well in the US. It ends up on the top of our list because it almost comes second nature to use, and displays pricing information very quickly. If you’re using an Android device, you might run into some trouble. There is no extension for Chrome on Android, though you can still paste links in CamelCamelCamel’s website.

Keepa

Keepa is another free option that comes in the form of an extension, though it doesn’t need to be activated when you want it to work. On Amazon, with the extension installed, a graph will appear on the product page that showcases price tracking data over time. It seems like Keepa’s price history is a little more in-depth, even on the surface. Users can see the new price history, as well as warehouse deals if the item is compatible. Users can also compare international prices.

Overall, Keepa is quick to use and is a good alternative to CamelCamelCamel, though it will always appear on Amazon’s site, even when you may not want it to. It’s also worth mentioning that Keepa has an Android app that pulls the same information.
