These Hotels Just Added Support For Room Keys On Android Through Google Wallet

Google Wallet supports hotel room keys and, soon, an entire chain of hotels from Club Quarters will be adding support for the needed tech.

Announced in a press release, Club Quarters will be rolling out support for guests to “store and use mobile room keys within personal device digital wallets.” This will be supported across both iPhone and Android devices, with the latter’s default digital wallet being Google Wallet. It’s not mentioned if Samsung Wallet will also gain support.

Club Quarters confirmed that “all of its properties” will support room keys via Android and iPhone, claiming to be “the first” to fully adopt this tech across its entire portfolio. This is also an upgrade to the chain’s existing digital room key support that launched in 2017 through the Club Quarters app.

Club Quarters explains:

Digital keys were previously made available by downloading the hotel’s app–an innovation that Club Quarters first introduced to the industry in 2017. However, by offering mobile keys with digital wallet compatibility, guests are able to use the technology without the step of having to download and use an additional app. Instead, arriving guests can easily receive their room key by downloading it from their check-in confirmation email and adding it to a digital wallet on their Apple or Android device.

Room keys will be made available to guests and activated as soon as the guest checks into their room electronically. The main advantage is that guests do not need to open a dedicated app, and can instead simply tap their unlocked device to the door’s access panel. It’s even mentioned that an “advanced” feature will allow guests to unlock their door for a few hours even if their phone’s battery is dead.

No timeline is mentioned in the press release for when these updated digital room keys will be available at Club Quarters properties, but Android Police was told that the feature is available now at all locations.
