The best-selling phones of 2025 so far have been revealed and while Android is holding its place, Samsung is falling behind.
Counterpoint Research this week published a list of the best-selling phones globally in Q1 2025, and it comes as no surprise that one of Apple’s latest iPhones tops the list. The iPhone 16 trio make up the top three spots, with the base iPhone 16 at number one with iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pro to follow. This is a bit of a shuffle year-over-year, as iPhone 15 Pro Max took the top spot this time last year.
The rest of the list includes iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Plus in the number four and number ten spots, respectively, with Android devices filling in the rest of the list.
Samsung, unsurprisingly, had the top-selling Android phone of 2025 so far, but it wasn’t in its flagship as was the case this time last year. Rather, the $199 Galaxy A16 was the best-selling Android phone of 2025 to date, with Galaxy A06 following closely behind, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra directly behind that. The only brand other than Apple and Samsung on this list is Redmi, with the Redmi 14C 4G taking the number eight spot above the Galaxy A55 and iPhone 16 Plus.
As mentioned, this shows that Samsung is falling behind.
Compared to last year, the company gave up one of its spots in the top 10 to Redmi, while also seeing fewer premium devices on the list. Where the Galaxy S24 Ultra was the most popular device of Q1 2024 with Galaxy S24 also making the top 10, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is lower on the list this time around, and no other Galaxy S25 devices made the list at all. As Counterpoint says, “the low-end (<$100) smartphones in the top 10 saw an increase in their contribution” versus last year.
There is one explanation for this, with Samsung having had a shorter sale period in Q1 this year for the Galaxy S25 series compared to the Galaxy S24, but that doesn’t change anything in regards to Redmi taking one of Samsung’s slots.
