The March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop Adds New Features To Pixel Studio

Contents
Google’s Pixel Feature Drop for March 2025 is here for Pixel devices, and if you’re using a Pixel 9 device, you’ll be getting some new features in Pixel Studio. The feature drop also includes preparation for the launch of a new Pixel Watch 3 feature, as well as a few other features like scam detection in calls and messages and new ways to use your phone’s camera.
For Pixel 9 users, Pixel Studio will now allow you to use text-to-image prompts to create images of people. This should work exactly like the AI-generated stickers you’ve been able to create in Pixel Studio since late last year. Back in December, Google updated Pixel Studio to version 1.4, and that update included AI sticker generation. You were able to create stickers by either describing them with a text prompt or by making one from an existing photo.
Now, Google says you’ll be able to do the same thing, but you’ll be able to create images of people specifically and not just generate a sticker to use. Google says this will be available on all Pixel 9 phones.
The March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop preps the Pixel Watch 3 for Loss of Pulse Detection
When Google launched the Pixel Watch 3 last year, it also announced the Loss of Pulse Detection feature. This was only available in the EU and the UK, however, with no mention at the time of when it would reach users in other regions. Fast forward several months, and Google has now announced that Loss of Pulse Detection has received US FDA approval. It also announced at the time that it would be coming at the end of March.
With today’s update starting to roll out to users this week, Pixel Watch 3 users in the US will be ready when the feature goes live at the end of the month.
Google is expanding AI features to other countries
Google’s AI features on Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 devices are making their way to a few more regions. With the rollout starting this week, new features will be making their way to Pixel users in Japan and Germany. In Japan, users will be getting access to a handful of features. Including Pixel Screenshots, Pixel Studio, Pixel AI weather reports and pollen tracker in the Weather app, and AI-powered summaries in the Recorder app. Only the AI-powered summaries will be available to Pixel 8 users.
For Pixel users in Germany, all of the same features will be made available except for the AI-powered summaries.
Pixel 9 users can now “stream like a pro with multiple cameras”
The Pixel 9 series devices have powerful cameras, but one camera can only take you so far if you’re looking to create more engaging, professional-looking content. Starting with the latest feature drop, Pixel 9 users will be able to connect their phone with cameras like a GoPro or another Pixel phone to stream content from multiple angles.
To utilize this feature, you’ll need to use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to connect to another Pixel device and a GoPro. Google says this only supports GoPro HERO 10 Black or newer cameras. For additional Pixel cameras, it can be any Pixel phone that’s a Pixel 6 or newer. Once this feature goes live, it should give content creators a way to put together some more sophisticated setups.
Satellite messaging/SOS begins rolling out for Pixel 9 users
One last new addition to the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop concerns the arrival of satellite messaging and satellite-based SOS expansion. For the SOS expansion, Google is rolling out the capability to connect with emergency services via satellite in Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and the EMEA. This will be available on Pixel 9 phones. The satellite messaging will be rolling out for Verizon users in the US, and it’ll be available on all Pixel 9 series phones.
Google says this will allow Verizon users to connect with emergency services when there’s no Wi-Fi or cellular connections available. So this doesn’t appear to be an ability to send messages in chats via satellite. In addition to all of these Pixel-specific features, Android users are also getting the capability to access new features like live location sharing in Find My Device.
