The Galaxy Z Flip 7 Will Support Qi2, But Without The Magnets

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 is reportedly going to support Qi2 wireless charging as its wireless charging standard. This would bring it in line with the Galaxy S25 series, which supports Qi2. It would also match up with Samsung’s rumored plan to support Qi2 with the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Details about the Qi2 support come from the Wireless Power Consortium, which recently listed documentation for an upcoming Samsung device. The phone is listed as model number SM-A846U. This is different from the model numbers used in older Galaxy Z Flip devices. However, 9to5Google keenly points out that this model number is akin to what the WPC used for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It’s also clearly listed as a Samsung device, and the “SM” at the beginning of the model number kind of gives that away anyway. The point is, this is the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in this listing.
The main reason this matters is that with support being Qi 2.1.0, as opposed to Qi2, Samsung doesn’t have to put magnets in the wireless charging coil inside the phone. Instead, Qi 2.1.0 allows for the magnets to be utilized by case manufacturers for use with wireless chargers. Such as those that are MagSafe compatible.
This likely ends up lowering the cost of production for the phone. Because the magnets don’t need to be in the phone itself. Qi 2.1.0 is also what Samsung uses with the Galaxy S25 series. This followed Qi 2.1.0 being announced at the beginning of this year. This is the latest version of the Qi standard as well.
With the wireless charging support now being listed at the WPC, it’s more and more likely that Samsung is extremely close to unveiling its next line of foldable smartphones. The rumor is that Samsung is looking to announce these at the beginning of July. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also tipped to come in two different color options, which are Blue Shadow and White Black.
