The Galaxy S25 Ultra Can Probably Still Charge An S Pen, But It Won’t

The Galaxy S25 Ultra shipped without an S Pen with Bluetooth capabilities, meaning it has no need for batteries and, therefore, no need to be charged. Still, Samsung packed an S Pen charger into the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which raises some questions.

Galaxy fans have been up in arms about the S25 Ultra’s new setup. Instead of an S Pen that’s capable of extra functions through Bluetooth, Samsung has decided to strip the S Pen down to a simple stylus. In main functionality, the pen has been unchanged. Still, the missing functionality has been the focus of a lot of attention.

In a fun twist, the Galaxy S25 Ultra might actually be capable of charging an S Pen, even if the one included doesn’t need it since it lacks a battery. A teardown video posted by JerryRigEverything shows the guts of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, including the S Pen silo and much titanium. There looks to still be an inductive charger in the S Pen silo. Compared to previous S Pen chargers in past devices, this one looks identical.

The find raises a couple of questions. Is it likely that Samsung will sell an S Pen with Bluetooth down the road? Or did Samsung plan to include an S Pen with Bluetooth this entire time, only to trash the idea right before launch? The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s stylus doesn’t fit in the new phone perfectly, and S25 Ultra users can’t use the old one, which means Samsung didn’t simply copy and paste the silo design from last year.

This comes as Samsung is still selling S Pen replacements for $50, even without Bluetooth. It was originally thought that this year’s S Pen would come with smart functions, fanned by a miswritten blog post from Samsung. The truth is that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen is simply a stylus. It’s a nice stylus, but one nonetheless.
