Take-Two CEO Says GTA 6 Will Be Worth The Wait

GTA 6 is a highly anticipated game and it’s going to be well worth the wait according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. It’s no small claim, but there’s also likely very little doubt that fans of the franchise will be pleased with what Rockstar is doing.

Taking this into consideration, it’s not unbelievable that the upcoming game will be worth the wait. And fans have waited quite a long time at this point. GTA 5 has been out since September of 2013 and it’s been ported to several different platforms. It was one of the last games launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. Making the jump to PS4 and Xbox One, and now the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available on PC.

With what is now an 11-year gap, the wait for the next GTA game has been long. But all that waiting should pay off, as GTA 6 is suspected to be one of the biggest games coming out next year. It’s also suspected to be a huge revenue driver for Take-Two and Rockstar.

Take-Two CEO says GTA 6 will be Extraordinary

Even if GTA 6 was only half as popular as GTA 5, it would still be a hugely popular game. Of course, Take-Two is hoping that lightning will strike twice and that GTA 6 will be as popular if not more popular than its predecessor. Judging from the way Zelnick talks about the game, it doesn’t seem like GTA 5’s popularity will be hard to surpass.

Speaking to Conner Mather in an interview, Zelnick says he thinks the game will be extraordinary. Zelnick also spoke about listening to fans and taking in their feedback.

“We definitely listen to feedback from our fans, absolutely. You need to, in our business, and you’re able to. But remember, the biggest hits are always the ones that are unexpected. Everything that we do has to be new and different, not derivative. So, by definition when people are commenting on something that is in the market, that means they’re looking at something that was done before. Our teams are focused on what’s new that you haven’t even thought about, like, you thought you were anticipating this thing, but this is way bigger and way better and more exciting and more beautiful than you could have possibly thought of,” Zelnick said.

While Rockstar has shown off the game in a reveal trailer, it hasn’t really talked about any features. That being said, Zelnick seems to be implying that the development team has cooked up some incredibly exciting stuff. This also isn’t the first time that Zelnick has hyped up the game to a large degree.

It’s hard to imagine just how big a game might be well ahead of its release. You can most certainly draw some conclusions and speculate based on the popularity of previous titles in the same franchise though. Especially if there’s a track record. However, Zelnick says even Take-Two was surprised by how much of a hit GTA 5 was. According to Zelnick, Take-Two didn’t think GTA 5 would sell as well as it did. Or that the GTA Online multiplayer mode would be as popular as it is with players.

That probably bodes well for GTA 6 when paired with Zelnick’s earlier comments. Not to mention a comment from a former Rockstar dev that NPC behavior will “blow people away.” GTA 6 is set for a release in the Fall of 2025.
