It wasn’t that long ago that T-Mobile was the underdog, competing against giants like AT&T and Verizon. Nearly a decade later, and many years removed from the brand’s Un-carrier movement, it’s become one of the best wireless carriers in the US. With that said, not all has been smooth sailing for T-Mobile.

The days of T-Mobile being the Un-carrier now feel unimaginable
The brand has made a number of controversial moves that have seen outrage and pushback from customers. Perhaps most recently, the brand completed its unexpected price hikes for legacy plans and even increased its fees. While it appeared from the outside that T-Mobile was having a pretty rocky year, the recent quarterly report begs to differ, with the brand having a record quarter that trounced the competition.
Of course, none of this is a fluke, and you can bet that T-Mobile is already taking steps to increase its market share, while also increasing its profits. It was about a week ago that the brand shared new Experience and Essential plans that it would be offering its customers going forward. And while these are meant to be successors to the popular Go5G plans, it appears that some stores won’t even offer the older plans an option.
The Un-carrier is no more
Much like its competition, its new plans aren’t all-inclusive, which means, if you’re signing up with a new T-Mobile Experience or Essentials plan, you’re going to need to pay additional tax and fees on top of the price shown. Now, this was never the case with Go5G plans, and this new change could catch long-time customers off guard.
Perhaps the most interesting part of all of this is that there are reports on Reddit from those working at T-Mobile, sharing that stores aren’t going to be incentivized when signing customers up to older plans. That the new plans are going to be the sole point of focus going forward. Android Authority was first to report this news, and there have been plenty of folks chiming on Reddit to confirm.
As far as what this means is that reportedly, T-Mobile representatives working at third-party locations will not be given any commission on Go5G plan activations. Now it’s not quite clear how exactly all of this will work, since there is some conflicting information. Some on Reddit are sharing that this will not apply to existing customers that are on the Go5G plan.
Of course, T-Mobile has a clear vision of how and what these new plans can do for the company and its customers, and while the new Experience and Essential plans offer more benefits, they also alleviate the burden of taxes and fees from the brand’s shoulders. Again, things aren’t all that clear right now, but we’ll probably know better as the new month rolls in and more Experience and Essential plans are activated.
If you navigate to the T-Mobile website, and search for plans, you can see that there’s no mention of the older Go5G plans. So if you’re currently on Go5G, it may be a good idea to stick with what you’ve got. And if you’re looking to switch, it may be worth giving a corporate store a try to see if you can still activate a Go5G plan. Otherwise, it looks like Experience and Essential plans are going to be the only way to go moving forward.
