Summary
- Spotify now has a dedicated space for upcoming releases in the search tab.
- Lists show upcoming releases based on listening history and top 10 countdowns.
- Users can easily track and discover new releases, improving the overall Spotify experience.
Before we had streaming apps like Spotify, keeping up to date on new music releases wasn’t always easy, but now we receive fresh hot tracks in weekly playlists like our Release Radars. And sure, Spotify often emails about upcoming releases, especially if there is a vinyl that can be pre-ordered, but having a dedicated space to discover upcoming releases would be much more intuitive.
This is why it’s exciting to see that Spotify just launched a new dedicated space to view upcoming releases, conveniently located in the search tab. Now, every Spotify subscriber can see which of their favorite bands have a pending release.

New Upcoming Releases section in Spotify search tab
Spotify’s search hub has gained a convenient new feature (via Techradar), an Upcoming Release section in the search tab, which houses two lists. The first list is based on your listening history, called For you, and this showcases upcoming releases of the bands you often listen to. The second list is called Top 10 countdowns, which looks like advertisements for popular bands and their upcoming releases, possibly artists you’d never listen to in a million years, but leads to Spotify’s most popular Countdown Pages (which the company admits are used to build hype, which sure sounds like advertising).
So you get the good with the bad with Spotify’s latest update that brings a centrally-located Upcoming Release section to the app; it’s now easier than ever to see which of your favorite artists have a new release coming up, and it’s easy enough to ignore the list that advertises content for the likes of Miley Cyrus and Ed Sheeran, however distasteful it is. Then again, if you’re into mainstream music, having a weekly list of the top ten albums everyone is looking forward to may not be the end of the world.
So, if you’re a Spotify user, it just got easier to track upcoming albums, which is certainly a convenient feature that improves the Spotify experience. If you’d like to check it out for yourself, grab the app through the widget below.
