Despite competitors like Apple Music and YouTube Music, Spotify remains one of the favorite music streaming services out there. Spotify added the ability to download songs for offline listening on Wear OS smartwatches back in 2021, but that required users to download songs using the small screen of the watch. The company is finally improving this experience by allowing users to download songs on their Wear OS watch directly from their smartphone or PC.

As first spotted by 9to5Google, Spotify has announced it is improving the overall management of downloads on devices. With this update, users will be able to download songs to other logged-in devices remotely, even if they’re not nearby. The update includes support for all smartphones, desktops, tablets, and smartwatches, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch.

For example, you’ll now be able to download songs, playlists, and full albums to your smartwatch directly from your phone. Instead of using the small watch screen, you’ll see a “Download to other device” option on your smartphone. Like offline downloads, this feature remains exclusive to Spotify Premium subscribers.

In addition to this nifty feature, Spotify is also making it easier to see which devices have downloads active. With the new update, tapping the “Manage downloads” button will show a list of devices that have a specific album or playlist downloaded (or are in the process of downloading it). This is especially helpful if you’re approaching the 5-device limit for offline downloads.

I’m already seeing this feature live in my app, but if you’re not, don’t worry. Spotify says the update is rolling out and could take a few weeks to reach all users. Still, it’s great to see the company finally making it easier to download and manage music on smartwatches without relying solely on the small screen.
