Spotify Audiobooks Get More AI-Narration Support Through ElevenLabs

Apart from access to millions of songs from artists across the world, the popular music streaming service Spotify also offers thousands of audiobooks in multiple languages. Two years ago, the streaming platform collaborated with Google Play Books to provide AI-narration audiobooks. Now, Spotify audiobooks have received support for more AI-generated narration thanks to its new partnership with ElevenLabs.

On Thursday, Spotify announced that it now accepts audiobooks narrated using ElevenLabs’ AI-narration voice technology. The latest partnership will boost the quantity of AI-narrated audiobooks on Spotify as ElevenLabs is currently among the most recognized AI audio providers.

Using ElevenLabs, independent authors can narrate their audiobooks in 29 languages. As of now, the free version only allows for 10 minutes of audio narration every month. However, you can subscribe to the $99 per month Pro plan that generates up to 500 minutes of narration for audiobooks.

ElevenLabs provides a wide selection of synthetic voices to choose from to narrate audiobooks. Spotify clarified that it will mark and identify the metadata of all AI-narrated books for listeners in the book description.

Spotify says it “firmly believes in the power of human narration.” However, the audio platform also believes that digital voices could help smaller authors produce audiobooks more cost-effectively and facilitate the creation of audiobooks for older, backlist titles that publishers would otherwise ignore.

Authors can upload ElevenLabs-generated audiobooks using Findaway Voices

People can upload audiobooks generated by ElevenLabs AI voice technology on Spotify using Findaway Voices, the company’s audiobook platform for independent authors. First, authors will need to create their digital voice-narrated audiobooks using ElevenBooks. Then, they can download the file package and upload it to Findaway Voices.

After a standard review process, the Findaway Voices team will publish the book on Spotify. The authors can also publish their ElevenLabs audiobooks on other retailers that accept digital voice-narrated titles from Findaway Voices. Notably, Spotify plans to collaborate with more companies like ElevenLabs to expand its audiobook library in the future.
