In what’s presumably a bug, the Gemini app is showing and letting users access the 2.0 Experimental Advanced (gemini-exp-1206) model again.
Google announced that model in mid-December “to be exceptional at complex tasks such as coding, math, reasoning & instruction following,” and it was a user favorite. That eventually made way for 2.0 Pro Experimental in February, with 2.5 Pro (experimental) from last month currently occupying the top model position.
Paid subscribers started noticing 1206’s return in the gemini.google.com model picker on Friday morning. Appearing at the bottom, it follows a small tweak where Google recently reordered how the models appear to elevate 2.5 Pro.
- 2.0 Flash: For everyday tasks, plus more features
- 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental): Uses advanced reasoning
- 2.5 Pro (experimental): Best for complex tasks
- Deep Research with 2.5 Pro: Get in-depth research reports
- Personalization (experimental): Help based on your Search history
- 2.0 Experimental Advanced: Preview gemini-exp-1206
It does not appear in the mobile app, and is somewhat reminiscent of 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental) disappearing just on Android and iOS over the weekend.
2.0 Experimental Advanced and 2.5 Pro (exp) appear side-by-side today, with the latter featuring thinking capabilities. It lacks file upload and apps access, with the “Lacks access to real-time info and some Gemini features” appearing like before.
