Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 Powers Ayaneo’s First 8.3-Inch Android Tablet And A New Handheld

Both the Ayaneo Gaming Pad and Pocket S2 debuted today, bringing Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 SoC into the market at the highest end of the company’s G series for gaming devices. The Gaming Pad is Ayaneo’s first Android tablet, and it’s quite something.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 was announced as part of a trio of chipsets. The G3 Gen 3 is the best of the bunch, with the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and G1 Gen 2 following behind. The high-end Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 brings an Adreno A32 GPU and 8-core Kryo CPU with Wi-Fi 7 capability and support for displays up to QHD+ 144Hz. For something meant to stay mobile, this chipset is pure capability.

The new SoC was announced at the same time that Ayaneo debuted two handhelds, both of which pack the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. The Ayaneo Gaming Pad, which is essentially an Android tablet, and the Ayaneo Pocket S2 offer similar experiences with vastly different builds.

The Ayaneo Gaming Pad couldn’t have found a more suitable moniker. The device brings two halves of a controller on either side attached to what’s essentially just a tablet. In fact, the controller portion is a simple attachable gaming controller similar to what other brands already make. In this case, both the tablet and controller are sold as one package. Beyond the SoC, the Gaming Pad brings a 120Hz 1440p display coming in at 8.3 inches. It supports other peripherals and comes in a design that looks nothing like what we’ve seen before.

Ayaneo integrated a cooling fan into the chassis itself, and it takes a prominent spot on the back of the Android tablet. The rear panel also proudly displays the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. The design almost takes after Nothing, though it isn’t nearly as bright. Some details are missing as far as what version of Android it runs and battery capacity, even though Ayaneo pushes the idea of high-capacity.

The Ayaneo Pocket S2, on the other hand, offers a more conventional handheld design, similar to a Nintendo Switch. The display comes in at 6.3 inches and equips a 1440p IPS panel. The upgraded controls offer Hall-effect joysticks and another powerful cooling system, though no big fan holes are visible.

Both devices are built into a CNC-machined chassis, which should speak to the quality of each. Pricing and availability have not been released as of yet, though Ayaneo’s 8.3-inch Android tablet could be another entry into a lacking mid-size category.
