Software attached to Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8 Watch update for Galaxy Watch has surfaced, revealing some new additions to the update, such as health features and Google Gemini.
On Twitter/X, @DevOfIpos found the firmware for One UI 8 Watch and posted some findings from the update. This includes a batch of colorful icons that are new in the update for Samsung’s various apps. The icons match the style of Samsung’s One UI 7 update.
The same user also notes that Gemini, not Assistant, is in place on this update. It’s been known for some time that Gemini will be coming to Wear OS, but this now suggests that Google may be pre-installing Gemini on Wear OS 6. Gemini is apparently “the same app” as Assistant.

APKs from the update were also posted, which Android Authority has since accessed. Strings suggest how Gemini will work, which does sound like how Assistant currently functions, just with some new features. “Gemini Actions” are listed, which include things like moving calendar events and summarizing emails.

Another app further hinted at Samsung Health’s upcoming “Antioxidant Index” which the company teased earlier this year. Apparently, this feature will be able to use the health sensor on Galaxy Watch to non-intrusively take a measurement.
The feature, as Samsung had announced, primarily tracks your beta-carotene levels to help you tailor nutrition. A disclaimer specifically reminds users that it’s not meant to be used to diagnose medical conditions.
To measure, press the pad of your thumb firmly on the center of the sensor on the back of your watch. You can check measurement progress on your phone. For more accurate results, measure with your thumb, not your wrist, and space out measurements by at least 10 seconds. Make sure your watch is connected to your phone. Check the progress of the measurement on your phone. Place your thumb on the sensor and press firmly. ”Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you’re concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional.”
Graphics also found in the app show how the feature works.

Samsung is expected to launch One UI 8 Watch on the Galaxy Watch 8 series later this year, likely alongside the launch of One UI 8 itself on the company’s new foldables, as is rumored to happen in July.
