Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 Is Now Nearing The End Of Its Run

For many, the Galaxy Watch 4 was the perfect smartwatch, offering a sleek profile, plenty of power, and a design that’s timeless. With that said, this is a still tech product that we’re talking about, which means that after some time, people were already thinking about what’s next, leaving it in the dust for newer options like the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 7. Now, we reported earlier that the Galaxy Watch 4 was in a bit of a tight spot with regard to future updates, but there’s now more writing on the wall confirming that it could be the end.

With the Galaxy Watch 8 on the horizon, it makes perfect sense that new One UI 8 software is being tested. And while it will make its debut on Samsung’s latest wearable, it still needs to find its way to other older devices, which means seeding betas to those willing to test it out in order to ensure a smooth launch. Now, this is where things get interesting, because the folks at 9to5Google spotted a note in the beta, which require at least a Galaxy Watch 5 in order to take advantage of the new software update.

The beginning of the end

For those that own a Galaxy Watch 4, this is going to be some sad news. But it’s important to note that this is for the beta, so there could be changes in the future. Now anyone that’s purchased a smartphone, tablet or wearable is no stranger to this. Every single device on the market reaches a point when it is no longer supported.

Depending on the brand, this could mean a couple of years of updates, or being blessed with several. We’ve seen big brands over the past couple of years really step up support, with Google and Samsung coming with several years of updates for its more recent products. Of course, the Galaxy Watch 4 is outside of this, with just three years promised.

With that said, this is just a beta and there could be a change in the future. However, we’ll need to keep an eye to see, but we hope that Samsung will at least provide security updates to the watch for just a little while longer. Of course, we’ve seen some pretty good deals on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch 6, so it might just be the perfect time to upgrade.
