Samsung Says Mysterious One UI 7 Delay Is To ‘ensure The Best Possible Experience’

Following a months-long delay, Samsung started rolling out its One UI 7 update last week, only to pause the update abruptly for no clear reason. In a statement regarding the delay, Samsung still doesn’t offer any clarity, but there is a possible explanation floating around.

It was spotted earlier today that Samsung had pulled the firmware for the One UI 7 update for Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6 devices just days after the update was first made available. Samsung has since confirmed this action, saying in a statement to Android Authority that it will share an updated schedule “shortly.”

The One UI 7 rollout schedule is being updated to ensure the best possible experience. The new timing and availability will be shared shortly.

The company’s statement barely acknowledges the abrupt nature of the delay, nor does it offer any explanation for what may have happened, only vaguely hinting that there might be an issue of some kind.

A possible reason for the One UI 7 delay has emerged, though.

Ice Universe says that Samsung discovered an issue where some Galaxy S24 owners were left unable to unlock their device at all. One user on Reddit posted a bug where their lock screen was squished and stretched to the point where it was unusable. It’s unclear if that’s the specific bug in question, but that certainly would be a showstopper. Other reports point to battery drain issues and a security loophole with Samsung’s “Secure Folder” feature.

We may never know what caused the abrupt pause, but One UI 7 will certainly go down in Samsung’s history as perhaps its messiest software launch.
