Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Preview: Release Date, Specs, Price & More

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will launch in the third quarter of the year. This phone will become the company’s new book-style foldable for 2025, and it will deliver some notable changes this time around, based on everything we’ve seen. Samsung is finally making some changes instead of making yet another iterative update, as was the case for the last couple of years.

The company’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 handset is, at the moment, kind of behind the competition, in some ways. It is notably thicker and even heavier than some of the leading competitors, while some other aspects could also be improved, like its cameras, for example. While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may not reinvent the wheel, even now we know that it will be a notable improvement. So, let’s see what the phone is expected to bring to the table.

This article will be regularly updated with new information on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (this is a preview article) — both official teasers and credible leaks, rumors, and insider claims — as it becomes available in the run-up to the release of the upcoming Android smartphone. This is the original posting of the article.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 be released?

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in either July or August. Last year’s model arrived very early, on July 10. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, launched on July 26, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 dropped on August 10. So, if we had to guess, we’d say that it’s coming in July, just like the last two models. No specific information surfaced at this point, though, so that’s just an educated guess. It’ll likely arrive in the second half of July, but we’ll have to wait for more information in order to be sure. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will arrive alongside it, and who knows, perhaps even the company’s first tri-fold.

What models are coming?

Based on rumored info, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature 12GB of RAM. We’re guessing LPDDR5X RAM will be used. The device will, however, be available in three different storage options. Their availability will be market-dependent, of course. The phone will allegedly arrive in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage variants. UFS 4.0 flash storage will likely be used, and you won’t be able to expand it via a microSD card. Those are the same storage options that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offered. The same goes for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 cost?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 may have the same price as its predecessor. Well, at least based on the information we have thus far. This could be accurate, though, as the same thing basically happened with the Galaxy S25 series. If that ends up being the case, the most affordable variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will end up costing $1,899 in the US. That will be the model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Other possible RAM and storage options will be more expensive, of course. The prices will differ in other markets, of course.

What will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 look like?

We’ve exclusively revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 design. We’ve shared CAD-based renders, thus showing the very first look at the actual device. You can see those renders in the gallery below. Below that gallery, you’ll notice a video giving you a 360-degree view of the device. Now, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may look similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at first glance, it will be considerably thinner.

It will be a lot thinner than its predecessor

Based on the information shared by CAD renders, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be 4.5mm thick when unfolded, and 9.5mm when folded. Its folded thickness is measured with the camera bump included, so it’ll be closer to 9mm when unfolded. Needless to say, this is a major improvement compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. That phone is 5.6mm thick when unfolded, and 12.1mm when folded.

Now, that may not seem like a lot on paper, but those of you who have used several foldables, thinner and thicker, will know that this is a monumental difference. While it will not be the world’s thinnest foldable, that title will remain in the OPPO Find N5’s hands, it will surely be much closer to it than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Even if you own the Galaxy Z Fold 6, getting this phone will make a notable difference in terms of general usage.

The approximate size of its displays is also known

With that being said, Samsung will stick with a flat frame and a flat theme all around. Both its main and cover display are tipped to be larger this time around, at 8.2 and 6.5 inches. A display camera hole will remain on the cover display. Samsung will cling to an under-display camera on the main display. The display crease is also expected to be less visible. The bezels will be thinner this time as well, though we don’t have the exact number.

The device will, of course, be made out of metal and glass. You’ll also notice a familiar-looking camera setup on the back. Three vertically aligned cameras will be included inside the same camera module and will be placed in the top-left corner. An LED flash will remain in the same spot, outside of the camera module. The phone is said to measure around 158.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm when unfolded.

What specs will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 have?

Some spec information did surface at this point, but the picture will get clearer as we get closer to launch. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will almost certainly be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. That is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. There is a slight chance Samsung may use a 7-core version of the chip, we’ll see. In addition to that, the company will include 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM on the inside, along with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.0 flash storage. The storage will not be expandable.

Both displays will be LTPO OLED panels

The main display on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to measure around 8.2 inches. The cover display will measure around 6.5 inches. Both of those panels will be LTPO AMOLED displays. An adaptive refresh rate will be a thing on both panels. Both of them will be able to jump from 1 to 120Hz. We still don’t know the exact resolution of each display, nor do we know what will be the peak brightness on them. They are both said to be “highly efficient”, though, which is great to hear.

The battery capacity could stay the same

Not much info surfaced regarding the phone’s battery, but one rumor did say that we won’t see an improvement. If it stays the same, we’ll have to deal with a 4,400mAh Li-Po battery, which is way below the competition. The OPPO Find N5, for example, offers a 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery. We are hoping Samsung will pivot to a silicon-carbon battery with this generation of foldables, as that would allow the company to increase battery capacity without physically increasing battery size.

The battery charging info is currently unknown, and the same goes for the cameras. The camera department is another area where users are expecting some major improvements, but we’ll see. Samsung may opt to not change much.

Should you wait to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7?

At this point in time, we do have enough information about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to say that holding out may not be a bad idea. If the price tag really remains unchanged, and the phone ends up being considerably thinner at the same time, those facts alone warrant a wait. We do expect some other improvements to be thrown into the mix, of course. So, waiting for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 later this year may not be a bad idea. That would be our recommendation if you have the luxury of waiting.
