Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Renders Reek Of An Ultra Influence

Summary

  • Leaked CAD renders provide a first look at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, showcasing the return of the rotating bezel and a new “squircle” design inspired by the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
  • The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is reported to come in a single 47mm size (a departure from previous Classic models), feature a 1.5-inch display with a slightly thicker frame, and pack a 435mAh battery, a minor increase from its predecessor.
  • Following Samsung’s historical release pattern for its Classic smartwatch models, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is expected to be unveiled at a July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and potentially a new Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Samsung’s ‘Classic’ Galaxy Watch models follow a two-year release cycle. For reference, 2021’s Galaxy Watch 4 series offered a Classic variant, but the subsequent Watch 5 didn’t. Similarly, 2023’s Galaxy Watch 6 offered a Classic model, while last year’s Watch 7 series did not.

Following the release pattern, Samsung should be preparing to release a Classic Galaxy Watch 8 model sometime later in Q3 (July or August), and we’re excited to see what the South Korean tech giant does to set the new model apart from its predecessors.

For what it’s worth, we’re not entirely in the dark when it comes to the Galaxy Watch 8 series. Previous leaks are rumors have suggested that the series could boast a slight battery bump, all while retaining its relatively slow 10W charging. Additionally, the new series, including the Classic variant, has been rumored to feature a ‘squircle’ design, taking inspiration from the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

For starters, the report indicated that the Watch 8 Classic model will be available in a single 47mm size. For what it’s worth, 2021’s Watch 4 Classic was available in 42mm and 46mm sizes, while 2023’s Watch 6 Classic was available in 43mm and 47mm sizes.

The departure from offering two Classic size options with the Watch 8 could be tied to there now being an extra Ultra Galaxy Watch variant.

The wearable is expected to boast a 1.5-inch display, which matches its predecessor’s screen size, complete with a slightly thicker frame. The wearable is reported to come in at 46mm x 46.5mm x 14.2mm.

The rotating bezel can be seen in all its glory in the CAD renders, complete with a customizable button, a back button, and a Watch Ultra-like orange crown. Also evident is the squircle design, which somewhat contrasts with the circular bezel, but in a good way. Despite the thicker design though, the wearable is only expected to get a 10mAh battery boost, going to 435mAh from the Watch 6 Classic’s 425mAh cell.

While not entirely certain, if Samsung follows its established release pattern, we could see the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and potentially even a new Galaxy Watch Ultra grace the Unpacked stage alongside the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in July.
