Samsung Could Finally Fix Secure Folder’s Flaw With One UI 8

If you use Samsung’s phones or tablets, you must be aware of the Secure Folder. It’s a built-in app/feature that lets you hide apps and sensitive files in a new profile while protecting them with a screen lock. However, recent updates pushed by Samsung to Secure Folder have introduced an annoying flaw that allows anyone to see your hidden apps or files like an open book. Thankfully, a new leak hints that Samsung could fix that flaw with One UI 8.
Samsung could fix the annoying flaw of Secure Folder that leaves users’ private data vulnerable to access
Earlier this year, a few reports hinted that Secure Folder wasn’t hiding sensitive information as expected. As Android Authority reports, that’s mainly because of the involvement of a work profile. Samsung creates a Work Profile for Secure Folder to keep your private data separate from your personal profile.
However, in some scenarios, that could leave your hidden apps and files vulnerable to access. As you may know, Google introduced its own version of Secure Folder called Private Space with Android 15. This one is a different “Private” user profile, as opposed to Secure Folder’s. Fortunately, your private data in Private Space can’t be accessed by Android Photo Picker and Permission Controller when the private profile is locked.
Sadly, that’s not the case with Samsung’s Secure Folder, but it could change soon. Samsung is reportedly adopting Google’s approach to fix the flaw in Secure Folder with One UI 8. In a recent tweet, tipster DevOfIpos mentions that Samsung is using the Private Space API for Secure Folder on One UI 8, instead of the work profile.
The leaked materials hint at some important changes
The tipster has also posted the description that appears when you hide the Secure Folder. A part of the description reads, “When hidden, the Secure Folder app icon will disappear, and app and data stored in Secure Folder are encrypted. Apps won’t work, and you won’t receive any notifications from them until you unhide Secure Folder.”
No wonder you will find it difficult to quickly access content in some situations. However, your data will be private as you’d expect it to be. As of now, there’s no word on when Samsung will release Android 16-based One UI 8. Not to forget, the delayed rollout of One UI 7 has already left users frustrated with Samsung.
