A new controversy is surrounding the CEO of OpenAI. Ann Altman, sister of Sam Altman, has filed a lawsuit alleging that she suffered sexual abuse over several years. However, her family says that Ann’s claims are “utterly untrue.”
Sam Altman’s sister files sexual abuse lawsuit against him; Altman family denies allegations
According to Ann Altman, her brother allegedly abused her for much of her childhood and adolescence. She and her defense allege that Sam was doing so for more than a decade—from 1997 to 2006. Everything would have started when Ann was three and Sam Altman was twelve, and it would have gone on until Sam became an adult—Ann was still a child.
The alleged abuse caused the plaintiff “severe emotional distress,” which prevented her from living a “normal life.” Ann and her lawyer filed the lawsuit in a federal court in Missouri requesting damages in excess of $75,000 (around £60,000), plus legal fees.
That said, the Altman family has spoken out against Ann’s allegations. In response to the lawsuit, Sam released a joint statement backed by his mother, Connie, and his younger brothers, Max and Jack, revealing that Ann has been facing “mental health challenges” for years and that her allegations are “utterly untrue.”
Ann Altman has been facing “mental health challenges,” claims the family
“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her wellbeing…Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is incredibly difficult.” reads the statement. “Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, and especially Sam. This situation causes immense pain to our entire family.”
This is not the first time Ann Altman has hinted at something like this. She has posted about it on social media, but the family has “chosen not to respond publicly.” However, Ann has now taken it to court, leaving them with “no choice but to address this.” The statement also says that Ann has already tried to get money by making false accusations about other family members in the past. While her family has tried to help her, she “refuses conventional treatment,” they claim.
