Rising Star DeepSeek Restricted Sign-Ups Due To “malicious Attacks”
Talk about an overnight sensation! The newest AI tool called DeepSeek has just hit the market, and it’s already proving to be a competitor for Google and OpenAI. The Chinese AI model has been climbing the charts, but it looks like this rising star has hit a snag. DeepSeek has restricted sign-ups due to malicious attacks.
This seems to have come out of left field. A newcomer in the AI market, DeepSeek has been making the headlines. For example, it surpassed ChatGPT on the Apple App Store. That’s a pretty tough thing to do, as OpenAI has established itself as the standard AI tool. However, DeepSeek, an open-source AI model that hails from China, has been able to go toe-to-toe with ChatGPT. It even got a nod from Meta for its AI prowess.
But, DeepSeek had to restrict sign-ups thanks to malicious attacks
It looks like Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, and other AI companies have banded together to curse DeepSeek because right out the gate, this new AI model is going through some trouble. It has an app on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store along with a dedicated website.
Earlier, the company announced that it had restricted new sign-ups to the service thanks to “large-scale malicious attacks on DeepSeek’s services,“. We don’t know what kind of attacks the company is talking about, so it’s tough to know what’s going on. Also, we don’t know who initiated the attack.
In any case, DeepSeek has restricted new sign-ups to the service. Fortunately, people who are already signed up can still log in. One thing to note is that things could vary at this point, as we at Android Headlines were able to sign up for DeepSeek using a Google account.
While we don’t know where the attack came from, it seems that DeepSeek has more confidence in people in its homeland than people outside of China. Sign-ups were restricted to only people who had a Chinese mainland phone number.
Having a large-scale malicious attack isn’t the best way to launch an AI model, but it seems that DeepSeek is on its way back on track. Be sure to check if you can create an account.
