Samsung and Google initially announced their jointly developed Android XR hardware, Project Moohan, late last year. The official line on availability has always been that the mixed-reality headset would be available later this year, and now, we have our first solid indication of exactly when we’ll get to try it out.
According to Korean outlet Newspim (and brought to our attention by 9to5Google), Project Moohan is looking at a fall release window. Newspim’s report indicates that Samsung will fully unveil the Project Moohan headset at an Unpacked event on September 29, and that the headset will go on sale in Korea a couple of weeks later, on October 13. Global availability will follow.
The report also states that prototype headsets will be on display at an Unpacked event dedicated to the Samsung Galazy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 next month, though 9to5 says it’s unclear whether there’ll be any Moohan release date information at that event.
There’s a lot we still don’t know about Project Moohan

Despite teases for the upcoming headset beginning at the end of 2024, we still know very little about Project Moohan. It’s being developed jointly by Samsung and Google and will run Android XR, a new version of Google’s mobile OS built for headsets and AR glasses. But that’s about all we’ve heard about it so far. There’s still no indication of what the product will be called at launch — my money’s on something like Galaxy Vision — or how much it’ll cost.
Standalone VR/XR headsets come in a wide range of prices. The Meta Quest 3S goes for $299, while the Apple Vision Pro clocks in at $3,500. It’s a safe bet that Project Moohan will be somewhere between those two extremes when it launches later this year. Based on today’s report, should know for sure come October.
