Reddit Answers Gets Google’s Gemini Integration To Serve Better Results

Now, Reddit Answers AI search tool is getting an update through an integration with Google’s Gemini AI assistant.

Reddit Answers now offers better quick answers, thanks to Google’s Gemini integration

Reddit and Google have announced a new update that incorporates Gemini into the former’s Vertex AI. The companies said that the integration will help Reddit Answers improve search relevance and provide quick answers for users. This integration comes over a year after Reddit expanded its collaboration with Google Cloud to access its Vertex AI platform to create artificial intelligence-based agents.

“By integrating Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Search along with Reddit-built technology into Reddit Answers, we are bringing the same innovation that powers Google to our users,” said Matt Snelham, SVP of Infrastructure, Reddit. “Users are seeing improved search relevance and as a result, we’ve seen a growth in users directly navigating to the Reddit homepage through Reddit Answers, increasing platform engagement.”

Reddit Answers is still in beta and isn’t yet available everywhere

Reddit launched Answers functionality on its platform in late 2024. As per the company, Reddit Answers aims to help users more effectively find information, recommendations, discussions, and insights directly from the conversations and communities across the platform. Reddit has designed this feature to keep users on the platform rather than search for threads on Google.

The integration with Google’s Gemini assistant allows Reddit Answers to provide more accurate search in addition to summaries, follow-up questions, and the ability to have an artificial conversation about the content. Furthermore, by integrating Gemini, Reddit may be able to better compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other generative AI chatbots that use its data.

Reddit is currently offering the Answers functionality in an ‘early access’ version in English on the web and iOS devices in the US. As of now, there’s no word regarding the feature’s global availability.
