Realme’s 10,000mAh Battery Brick Is Coming Sooner Than Your Charger Can Cope

realme showed off a 10,000mAh capacity battery smartphone just a few weeks ago, which was a prototype. Unfortunately, it was not on display at the realme GT 7 launch event in Paris this week, however, we did get a chance to talk with realme about the future of this device.
realme’s Vice President and CMO, Chase Xu says that a 10,000mAh capacity battery smartphone will be coming from realme soon. Obviously, he would not give a timeline on when that would happen, considering there are still a few barriers that need to be worked out for mass production.
At the same time, realme did also confirm that a phone with a 7,500mAh capacity battery would be launching this year, from the company. realme also said that the GT 8 Pro and the number series will be released before the end of the year. The number series is typically a bit lower-end, so we’re expecting the GT 8 Pro to be the one with the 7,500mAh capacity battery, and it’ll likely launch in October, after Snapdragon Summit.
That would be a 1,000mAh increase over the GT 7 Pro, in just a year. That’s a 14% increase in battery capacity year-over-year, which is quite impressive.
What challenges does realme face with a 10,000mAh smartphone?
The challenges for mass producing a smartphone with a 10,000mAh capacity battery are exactly what you’d expect. The big one being space. Despite Silicon-Carbon allowing for a much more dense battery, and very thin batteries, a 10,000mAh cell still takes up a good amount of space. And so does a telephoto camera, which is something they’d need to work out.
Another issue would be cooling. Obviously, we all want a phone with a 10,000mAh battery inside. This makes it so that we don’t need to charge our phone often, or even every two days. But we also don’t want something that’s very large or thick. Cooling is not just important for the performance of your phone, but also for the longevity of the battery. Battery health has become a huge topic of conversation over the last few years, and if your battery is always running fairly hot, it’s going to be hard to keep the battery in tip-top shape come two, three even four years from now.
However, realme has already filed a number of patents for the PCB in regards to a 10,000mAh capacity battery. And at the rate that battery tech is improving, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a 10,000mAh smartphone launch in 2026 from realme and possibly another company like RedMagic which just launched a 7,500mAh gaming phone.
