Google released a small update to the Pixel Weather app this week that just tweaks the map view for a more fullscreen experience.
The only change we’ve noticed is when you open a location’s Weather map. Instead of a bottom sheet, there’s now a floating card for the timeline controls and circular play/pause button. This design was already in place on large-screen devices like the Pixel Tablet and Fold.
As such, you see a little more of the map at the left, right, and bottom, with the gesture navigation bar appearing above that background layer, for a more fullscreen experience. Pixel Weather already offers an edge-to-edge design on the homepage and city view. (Pixel Screenshots also has it, but the other app in the 2024 trio does not: Pixel Studio.)
This map update with version 1.0.20250408.758982743 of Pixel Weather widely rolled out in recent days. It follows the app adding (server-side) a pollen tracker in the US at the start of May.
