New features on Google Pixel Watch 3

Summary

  • Visible now offers Pixel Watch LTE connectivity at no extra charge for Pro subscribers.
  • Visible’s plans, running on Verizon’s network, offer unlimited talk, text, data, and various perks at affordable prices.
  • Pixel Watch 2 and 3 owners should opt for Visible’s top-tier plan to maximize benefits.

Smartwatches may never fully evolve into wrist-worn smartphones, but they’ll certainly keep trying. It’s hard to beat the Pixel Watch 3, and the LTE version lets you make calls, send text messages, navigate unfamiliar places, and interact with an increasing number of apps.

But you’ll need to add your smartwatch to a mobile plan to get those benefits, and not all carriers let you do that. Pickings are especially slim if you’re not excited about signing long contracts, as prepaid carriers are less likely than the Big Three to offer smartwatch support. But now, if you own either of Google’s two most recent releases, you can add it to your Visible plan for just $10 monthly. And if you subscribe to the Visible+ Pro plan, you won’t have to pay anything at all (via 9to5Google).

An enticing draw for Pixel Watch owners

Visible’s adoption of Pixel Watch 2 and 3 LTE connectivity adds to its current support for the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer. Only the second- and third-generation Pixel wearables are eligible, with no indication the list will expand. Visible’s plans run on the Verizon network, all offer unlimited talk, text, and data and cost $25, $35, and $45 per month (although a current discount cuts $5 off the monthly plans).

Moving from the base plan to the middle, $35 plan adds roaming within Canada and Mexico, Full HD video streaming, and twice the hotspot speed offered by the base plan. A move to the top-tier, $45 Visible+ Pro gets you similar speed upgrades, such as 4K streaming and triple the base hotspot speeds, plus expanded international calling and texting. But the key is, the Pro subscription doesn’t charge to connect your Pixel Watch to the LTE network.

In other words, Pixel Watch 2 and 3 owners have no reason to stick with the middle plan, which calls for a $10 smartwatch add-on bill. Instead, putting the $10 towards the top-level Visible plan ensures you’ll be able to make full use of Verizon’s hardware on both your phone and watch, in addition to having the freedom of standalone mobile connectivity strapped to your wrist. In an era when regularly switching carriers saves consumers money, it’s a hard deal for Pixel Watch users to ignore.
