Pixel 9a Is Missing Modes, More As It’s Still On Android 15 QPR1

After setting up and updating, your Pixel 9a will still be running Android 15 QPR1 instead of QPR2.

This is Android 15 QPR1 with the April 2025 security patch, so there aren’t issues for Pixel 9a users on that front.

But it’s otherwise running software that was released in December, and not the latest 15 QPR2 update that launched in March.

As such, it’s missing the customizable “Modes” redesign that replaces Do Not Disturb, and still shows the globe icon in the bottom-right corner even if you just have one keyboard/language set. Other missing features and changes include:

  • Notification cooldown: “When you receive many notifications within a short time, your device will lower its volume and minimize alerts for up to 2 minutes. Calls, alarms, and priority conversations are not affected”
  • Battery percentage ring in the Bluetooth Device details page, and a live device image in the QS Tile
  • The QR code when sharing Wi-Fi credentials now makes use of a Material You shape

Google says the QPR2 features will not come to the Pixel 9a until the next quarterly Pixel Drop. Android 15 QPR1 was leveraged because it was the most stable build for carrier and other testing.

That’s presumably coming in June and should be the Android 16 update. Pixel owners not having the latest version of Android features for about two months is — in principle — unfortunate. It remains to be seen whether Google will make the Android 16 Beta available for the Pixel 9a.
