Following Verizon’s announcement yesterday, Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile have both confirmed that Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 owners on their networks will be getting satellite messaging “in the coming weeks.”
In case you missed it, Verizon announced yesterday that it would open up support for satellite messaging to any number for its customers using a Galaxy S25 series or Google Pixel 9 series device. That rollout started yesterday and was the first of its kind for a US carrier, but it’s not going to be the last.
Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile have today announced that Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 owners on their service will also be able to use satellite messaging. This is powered by Skylo, the announcement explains:
Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR) and Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) today announced that their respective mobile businesses, Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile, have launched satellite-based services through a collaboration with Skylo, a non-terrestrial network (NTN) service provider. The feature is now available on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 9 devices and will provide customers with access to emergency messaging services when their device is not connected to either a cellular or WiFi network. The ability to send and receive SMS text messages over satellite service on Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 9 devices is expected to be added in the coming weeks.
It’s added that this service will be “available on additional devices in the future,” including iPhones (which already have their own satellite messaging option, added last year).
This functionality will be rolling out over “the coming weeks,” but it’s mentioned that it is “available now,” so the rollout may be starting already. Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile, notably, both operate on Verizon’s network.
