Phone Comparisons: OPPO Find N5 Vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3

OPPO has announced its new, incredibly thin foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N5. In this article, we’ll be comparing it with its predecessor. In other words, we’ll be comparing the OPPO Find N5 vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3. The OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 are basically the same phones. They have different branding on them, and some slight differences in software, but other than that, they’re identical.

The OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 were announced in 2023, and the OPPO Find N5 arrived around a year and a half after that. It launched in February 2025. Do note that the OnePlus Open 2 will not be coming, at least not in 2025, and that’s official information, coming from OnePlus. The OPPO Find N5 also won’t be launched in Europe, so… this device will have a much more limited availability than its predecessor. That’s a real shame, though.

The OPPO Find N5 is a much thinner smartphone than its predecessor, and it’s also lighter, taller, and wider. It measures only 8.9mm when folded, which makes it thinner than some regular slab phones. It’s 4.2mm thick when unfolded, and weighs 229 grams. The OnePlus Open aka OPPO Find N3 (we’ll refer to its as the OnePlus Open from now on), measures 11.7mm when folded, and 5.8mm when folded. It weighs 239 or 245 grams, depending on the model. Needless to say, this is quite different, and the in-hand feeling is entirely different between them.

The OPPO Find N5 is made out of metal and glass or metal and vegan leather. The thing is, the vegan leather model was launched in China only. Its global variant comes with a glass back only. The OnePlus Open is available in both glass and vegan leather models globally. Both smartphones have a camera oreo on the back, but the one on the OPPO Find N5 is thinner and smaller in general. There are three cameras inside both of those camera modules.

You’ll find a display camera hole on all four displays here, while the frame is flat on both smartphones. Both devices also include an alert slider and regular power/lock and volume up and down buttons. The fingerprint scanner is placed inside the power/lock key on the right side. That also goes for both smartphones. The OPPO Find N5 is IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 certified, while the OnePlus Open comes with an IPX4 certification.

OPPO Find N5 vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3: Display

Both of these phones have two displays each, though they’re different. The OPPO Find N5 includes an 8.12-inch Foldable LTPO OLED main display. That display supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and can project up to 1 billion colors. It supports Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ content too. HDR Vivid is supported here as well, while the peak brightness is 2,100 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is around 90%, while the resolution is 2248 x 2480 pixels.

The cover display on the device measures 6.62 inches, and it’s an LTPO OLED panel. An adaptive refresh rate is in play here too, and it goes from 1 to 120Hz. Dolby Vision is supported, as is HDR10+ content and HDR Vivid. The peak brightness here is 2,400 nits, while this display has Ultra HDR image support. The resolution it offers is 2616 x 1140, and it’s protected by the Nanocrystal Glass.

The OnePlus Open’s displays are a bit smaller

The OnePlus Open, on the other hand, features a 7.82-inch Foldable LTPO3 Flexi-fluid AMOLED display. That panel can project up to 1 billion colors and has Dolby Vision support. The refresh rate goes from 1 to 120Hz, while the peak brightness is 2,800 nits. The screen-to-body ratio on this display is around 89.6 percent, and the resolution is 2268 x 2440 pixels.

The cover display measures 6.31 inches, and it’s an LTPO3 Super Fluid OLED display. It can project up to 1 billion colors and supports Dolby Vision. Its adaptive refresh rate goes from 1 to 12Hz, while the peak brightness is 2,800 nits. The resolution this display offers is 2484 x 1116 pixels, and the display is protected by the Ceramic Guard.

All four displays are more than good enough

All four of these displays are really good, in all honesty. They’re both bright, vivid, and have good viewing angles. The touch response is also good, and all display supports high-frequency PWM dimming. The OnePlus Open’s displays do technically get a bit brighter, but only on paper, in actual use, all four displays are very similar in that regard. You’ll never wish for more brightness, basically. The crease on the OPPO Find N5’s main display is less noticeable, but the one on the OnePlus Open’s main panel is really subtle too.

OPPO Find N5 vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3: Performance

The OPPO Find N5 is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor from Qualcomm. Do note that this is a 7-core version of that chip, not an 8-core one. It’s a 3nm processor, by the way. OPPO coupled that with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and is using UFS 4.0 flash storage. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 fuels the OnePlus Open, a 4nm processor. That chip is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. Neither phone supports storage expansion.

The newer phone here is more powerful, without a doubt. The Snapdragon 8 Elite outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, even if this is a 7-core version. Performance-wise, it’s not far from an 8-core model, and that’s Qualcomm’s most powerful chip now. In a side-by-side comparison, yes, the OPPO Find N5 is snappier, without a doubt. Generally speaking, both smartphones offer great performance. The OnePlus Open still does a fantastic job, lag is not a part of the equation here.

Regular, day-to-day tasks are not a problem for either phone. Yes, the OPPO Find N5 is a bit snappier, but you wouldn’t really notice if you didn’t compare it side-by-side. When it comes to heavy multitasking, both do a fantastic job, and the same goes for gaming too. The OnePlus Open can still run any game from the Google Play Store. We did notice that the OPPO Find N5 does open games faster, which is to be expected. Both phones have good heat control too, so that’s not really an issue either.

OPPO Find N5 vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3: Battery

A 5,600mAh battery sits inside the OPPO Find N5. That is a silicon-carbon battery, and it’s a real miracle OPPO managed to fit it inside this phone. The OnePlus Open, on the other hand, has a 4,805mAh unit on the inside, despite the fact it’s considerably thicker. That device uses a regular Li-Po battery. Yes, the OPPO Find N5 has a considerably larger battery, and despite the fact its displays are a bit bigger, it offers considerably better battery life.

The OPPO Find N5’s battery life is not a joke. We’ve been able to cross the 10-hour screen-on-time mark a number of times thus far. Getting to over 9 hours on a regular basis is not a problem, even if you’re using the main display quite a bit. The OnePlus Open is flying closer to 7+ hours of screen-on time. It can’t really compete with the OPPO Find N5, but the battery life is not bad at all.

OPPO’s new smartphone also has the edge when it comes to charging. It supports 80W wired, 50W wireless, and reverse wired charging. The OnePlus Open supports 67W wired and reverse wired charging, wireless charging is not supported here. Both smartphones also come with a charger in the retail box, at least their global models do.

OPPO Find N5 vs OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3: Cameras

The OPPO Find N5 features three cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size) is backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/4.0-inch sensor size, 116-degree FoV), and a 50-megapixel periscope telemacro camera (1/2.75-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom). Hasselblad is also a part of the equation here, as it handles color calibration of the phone’s cameras, amongst other things.

The OnePlus Open, on the other hand, has a 48-megapixel main camera (1/1.43-inch sensor size), a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.0-inch sensor size, 114-degree FoV), and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (1/2.0-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom). Hasselblad is a part of the OnePlus Open experience too, as the company handles color calibration here too.

Now, on paper, the OnePlus Open may seem like a better camera smartphone. And it is, in some ways. It does a better job in low light, for the most part, while the ultrawide camera is also better. The OPPO Find N5 arguably does a better job during the day. It also has a telemacro camera, which is the best way to handle macro photography. We did a dedicated camera comparison for these two phones, in case you’d like to know more.

Audio

Both of these phones include stereo speakers. The loudness coming from both of them is similar, and a bit below the standard for flagship smartphones these days. It’s still good loudness, though, and the audio output in general is not bad at all.

There is no audio jack on either phone, though. You’ll have to utilize their Type-C ports for wired headphone connections. If you prefer wireless audio, the OPPO Find N5 offers Bluetooth 5.4, while the OnePlus Open comes with Bluetooth 5.3 support.
