Patent Pending, Hype Building: This Could Be OPPO’s Next Flip Phone

Earlier this year, OPPO launched the Find N5 (review), its latest foldable smartphone, which boasts an impressively thin design at just 4.21mm when unfolded. Now, the company plans to launch a clamshell variant of the same foldable device. OPPO could dub the phone Find N5 Flip and launch it as the successor to the Find N3 Flip model. Although the company has not made an official announcement yet, the potential design for the OPPO Find N5 Flip has emerged in a patent filing.

OPPO has patented a foldable phone that could be the Find N5 Flip

Recently, a new clamshell foldable smartphone from OPPO appeared in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s website. The patent filing is accompanied by a series of photos of the device. While the patent doesn’t reveal the name of the phone, it is likely for the upcoming OPPO Find N5 Flip.

The patent filing shows the entire design for a clamshell-style foldable smartphone, and it’s not one that OPPO has offered in a commercial device so far. As seen in the renders, the device has a cover screen on one side and three cameras arranged next to it, apart from the LED flash unit. The design resembles the Find N3 Flip, but the camera module features a different arrangement.

It could have a larger cover display

Notably, the cover display seems a little bigger than the one on the Find N3 Flip. If that’s indeed the Find N5 Flip, it appears that OPPO is refreshing the design instead of implementing major alterations. Unfortunately, the patent hasn’t revealed anything about the specifications of the new foldable offering.

We can expect the Find N5 Flip to offer significant hardware upgrades over its predecessor. The MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor powers the Find N3 Flip. We expect the company to offer a newer flagship SoC from either MediaTek or Qualcomm with the upcoming clamshell-style foldable. More information about the device will emerge later this quarter, so watch this space for regular updates.
