OPPO’s Find N5 Is Making This IPhone User Jealous With Clever Mac Integration

Foldable phones are still a pretty niche product category, but OPPO is making it hard for me to stick with my slab phone, let alone my iPhone. Since the ColorOS 15 launch last year, OPPO (and OnePlus) have really been treating Apple users to some really nice features. With ColorOS 15, OPPO launched the ability to do quick sharing with iPhones. Built right into the Quick Share menu, now yes it does require installing an app onto the iPhone you’re sharing with, but once you do that, it’s seamless.
Now with OPPO Find N5, the company is adding a few features that Mac users are going to love. OPPO is launching O+ Connect for Mac, which brings in features like Remote Control, the ability to seamlessly transfer files, and preview photos and videos on your Mac from your OPPO Find N5.
I’ve used the Remote Control feature, and I was honestly surprised at how easy it was to set up. It take just a couple of steps and you have control of your Mac on your OPPO Find N5. Which looks great on that large 8.12-inch internal display. There are a few caveats here, like the fact that your Mac needs to be online with the O+ Connect app open. It also needs to be on the same WiFi network as your Find N5. So, unfortunately, you can’t control your Mac from home, at the office.
This is a cool feature, but not one that I’d use all that much. The ability to do this, however, is a bigger deal. On top of this, you can use your Find N5 as a second display for your Mac. Now, this is a pretty small display, compared to a Macbook or a monitor, but being able to have a second monitor with me when I’m traveling is really nice to have. This works similar to how Samsung’s Galaxy devices can act as second displays for their laptops.
File transfer to Mac is effortless
While I won’t use Remote Mac Control all that much, a feature I will use a lot is File Transfer and the ability to preview pictures and videos. I did this quite a bit while writing my review of the Find N5.
Just open up the O+ Connect app on your Mac, and connect to your Find N5. Every once in a while, you’ll be greeted with a QR Code that you need to scan with your Find N5, to get connected. But it’s insanely easy to do. Now you can transfer files to your Find N5, or to your Mac, as well as preview and download photos or videos onto your Mac. It can also automatically sync with your Mac, similar to the Photos app with the iPhone.
It really makes you wonder why OPPO is doing so much work for Apple users? Well a big reason is because OPPO doesn’t make their own laptops, so they aren’t focusing on Windows like Xiaomi, HONOR, Samsung and others are, since they have their own laptops that they are selling.
OPPO’s making it hard to go back to my iPhone
I’ve wanted to switch back to Android a few times over the last couple of years, but always go back to my iPhone for a few reasons. The big one is the Flighty app, which has become a must-have for me when I’m traveling, and it’s unfortunately not on Android. But there are also a ton of ecosystem features that I’d miss by going with an Android phone again since I am such a big Mac user. As I despise Windows. But OPPO’s focus on Apple users lately has me really considering if I should ditch my iPhone for an OPPO phone.
I really like the Find N5, but ultimately, I’m going to be going back to my iPhone because OnePlus won’t be selling the phone here and it doesn’t support all the bands on AT&T and T-Mobile. And the last thing I want is to go out, and be in an area that uses a band that my Find N5 doesn’t have, leaving me with no signal. It’s rather unfortunate that OnePlus isn’t bringing this phone to the US because it would do insanely well if priced correctly. Seeing as our only options here are the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 6.
However, if I lived in Europe, or a country that was actually selling the Find N5 officially, this would definitely be my new daily driver. It fixes all of the issues that keep me going back to the iPhone.
