OPPO Find N5 Vs OnePlus Open: How Foldables Changed After 16 Months

OPPO is set to unveil the Find N5 next week at an event in Singapore. And while we can’t talk about everything about the Find N5 just yet, we can show you how it stacks up to the OnePlus Open aka the OPPO Find N3, its predecessor. Seeing as OPPO waited more than a year to put out its predecessor, we were expecting quite a few changes on the Find N5, and we have gotten just that. Which we can see without even turning on the display.

The OPPO Find N5 is far thinner than the Find N3. For reference, the Find N3 measured 11.7mm thick when closed and 5.8mm when open. Which was pretty thin for the time (being late 2023). Now, we can visibly see how much thinner the Find N5 is. It looks to be almost half as thin. Which is pretty incredible. OPPO has said that the Find N5 is the World’s Thinnest Foldable, which means it beats out the HONOR Magic V3. The Magic V3 measures in at 9.3mm thick when folded and 4.4mm when unfolded. So it’s likely more than a millimeter thinner when unfolded. That’s quite impressive.

If you look at the OPPO Find N5, you can see that the phone is barely thicker than the USB-C port. In fact, the metal on the top and bottom of the port is extremely thin.

OPPO has noticeably shrunk the camera bump too

With the Find X8 series that OPPO announced last fall, the company shrunk the camera bump by about 40%, compared to the Find X7 series. That’s pretty impressive, considering it still had two telephoto lenses. And it looks like OPPO has brought that shrinkage over to the Find N5 as well. Standing the OPPO Find N5 next to the OnePlus Open, we can see that the camera bump is far thinner. Which also helps to reduce the weight.

There have been some rumors about the cameras on the OPPO Find N5, specifically that the ultrawide has been downgraded to an 8-megapixel shooter. We can’t confirm yet, but that would make sense as to why the camera bump is so much thinner.

OPPO Find N5 has the largest internal display in a book style foldable

Currently, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold has the largest internal display on a book-style foldable. That wording is important, as the Huawei Mate XT obviously has a larger display since it’s a tri-fold. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold sports an 8-inch display, so for the OPPO Find N5 to be physically larger, it must have an even larger display, which is bananas.

It’s important to note, that the width of the OPPO Find N5 is about the same as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but it is noticeably taller. Showing that not only the internal display is larger, but so is the outer display.

Can you imagine having a display over 8 inches in your pocket? And one that has almost no crease? That’s what the OPPO Find N5 is looking to offer here.
