According to the latest rumor, OPPO could ditch the alert slider. This information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster. He claims that a customizable button will replace it.
The alert slider has been a part of OPPO & OnePlus devices for quite some time
So, the alert slider has been a part of OnePlus phones since the OnePlus 2, which launched in 2015. OPPO adopted it with the OnePlus Find N3 and OnePlus Find N3 Flip. Since those devices, all OnePlus and OPPO phones featured alert sliders. Those are two sister companies and have identical alert slider implementations, that’s why we’re mentioning them.
In fact, there’s a good chance that OnePlus will also ditch an alert slider if OPPO does it. The two companies even have very similar software, and often share hardware characteristics too.
The OPPO Find X8 Ultra to become the first phone to feature this customizable button
When will that happen? According to what was said, the OPPO Find X8 Ultra will not feature an alert slider. It will, instead, come with a customizable button, which could be referred to as a camera key of sorts.
Chances are it will be customizable. We don’t know the details yet, but we may get short press and long press, and even multi-press options. It could even be a two-step key or something of the sort, we’ll see.
That device is expected to arrive next month
The tipster said that the OPPO Find X8 Ultra was expected to arrive in February, but OPPO decided to move the launch event to March. We’re not sure if the implementation of this key has something to do with it, but there you go.
The phone is tipped to offer a flat display, and ship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. A 6,000mAh battery is also expected, and the same goes for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The phone will also ship with both IP68 and IP69 certification for water and dust resistance. A 1-inch type main camera is expected possibly Sony’s LYT-900 sensor. Four cameras overall will be included inside the phone, and Hasselblad will be a part of the offering. A telemacro camera will be a part of the offering this time around.
