OnePlus Watch 3 Has A Funny Typo In Its Backplate Engraving

Contents
The OnePlus Watch 3 arrived this week as an impressive wearable packed with useful features to monitor your health and make your day-to-day life easier. Its remarkable battery life is one of the most touted perks by the company. However, there is another “perk” that has unexpectedly crept into some (or many) units of the product. It seems that the OnePlus Watch 3 has a typo in the engraving of its backplate.
As usual, electronic products have a series of engravings with some data required by certifying agencies. Manufacturers look for these engravings to be discreet so as not to become a disruptive element in the design of the device. In smartwatches, you can usually find them on their backplate.
Several OnePlus Watch 3 units have a backplate engraving typo
In the case of the OnePlus Watch 3, a line engraved on the backplate should say “Made in China.” However, somehow, the company has missed that the text was actually misspelled before moving to the production stage. Reddit users, like Maniac1688, have noticed a typo on their OnePlus Watch 3, as the engraving reads “Meda in China.”
The reports suggest that there are a significant number of units affected by the typo. Even Android Authority’s unit shows the same misspelled text on its backplate. Apparently, the mistake is on the part of the team responsible for the watch’s design, as it was even reflected in the official renders on the company’s website. After the reports surfaced, the renders were taken down, but the internet had already picked up on the situation.
Reactions to the typo on the OnePlus Watch 3 have been mixed. Some people are disappointed that a company like OnePlus has made such a mistake. Others take the situation more with humor than disappointment. Thankfully, the engraving is not something you’ll see permanently every time you wear the watch. In the end, you’ll always have it covered by your wrist, although the feeling of “it’s there” can be unpleasant for some.
On the plus side, the typo could turn some OnePlus Watch 3 units into a sort of “collector’s item” and increase their value. However, that will depend on whether only a particular production batch was affected. If all units have the error, there will be no additional value. After all, if everyone is special, then no one is anymore, right?
The lack of ECG in the US is worse news
Actually, the saddest news for users in the US is far from being this typo. The OnePlus Watch 3 does not offer the ECG (Electrocardiogram) feature in The U.S. or Canada. OnePlus was unable to obtain the necessary FCC certification. However, global units do include it.
