OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R for the US, during a virtual event today. The OnePlus 13 was already announced in China a few months ago, so we do know a lot of what to expect from this phone. However, it does go on sale today.

OnePlus 13 sports a 6.82-inch AMOLED display with up to 4,500nits of peak brightness. This is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with either 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage, or 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. With a 6,000mAh capacity battery inside. Making it a pretty beefy smartphone, along with 80W charging, meaning that you can go from dead to 50% charged in under 23 minutes. Wireless charging is available with 50W SUPERVOOC. OnePlus is also selling a 50W SUPERVOOC wireless charger that uses MagSafe.

On the camera front, we’re looking at triple 50-megapixel cameras. OnePlus did upgrade the telephoto camera from a Samsung sensor to Sony. So you’re looking at a slight upgrade, though you might not notice a huge difference compared to the OnePlus 12.

OnePlus 13 sports the 5th generation Hasselblad Camera Module

OnePlus is already on its 5th generation Hasselblad camera. But this is the 5th gen, and we’re looking at a pretty sweet setup here. The main sensor is a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor, with a f/1.6 aperture. The telephoto is a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 sensor with a 73mm focal length. And finally the ultrawide is a ISOCELL JN5 sensor with a 120-degree field of view.

OnePlus did include Smart Scenes, which we first saw and tested quite extensively on the OPPO Find X8 series. Essentially, we have smart scenes for fireworks, stage and sunset/sunrise. These do make a pretty big difference with a variety of camera shots. However, don’t use these smart scenes with action mode, as the shots won’t come out quite as good.

OxygenOS 15 ships with OnePlus 13

As expected, the OnePlus 13 does ship with OxygenOS 15 which is based off of Android 15. That is the latest version of Android and OxygenOS. Now, speaking of updates, OnePlus is promising four years of software updates and six years of security updates. That’s lower than the standard that Google and Samsung have promised recently for their phones, however it is still quite respectable.

With OxygenOS 15, OnePlus has been able to decrease the size of the OS. Meaning that you get a lot more storage on your OnePlus 13. Basically, what OnePlus did is, it decided it didn’t need to set aside as much storage for future updates. And thus is letting the user have that storage space back.

Pricing and availability

The OnePlus 13 is available for sale starting today, from OnePlus.com, Best Buy and Amazon. OnePlus 13 will start at $899 for the 12GB/256GB model, with the 16GB/512GB model going for $999. That is $100 more than last year’s OnePlus 12, however that is still far cheaper than comparable flagships.
