Summary

  • Samsung begins rollout of One UI 7 updates for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 in South Korea.
  • Not all One UI 7 features will be available for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.
  • Samsung will shift its focus to midrange phones and tablets after the completion of the update rollout to flagship Galaxy devices.

Samsung is one of the very few names in the smartphone industry that has committed to seven years of Android OS upgrades, though many criticize it for not delivering those updates fast enough. Things turned worse for Samsung earlier this month when critics doubled down on their criticism of the South Korean tech giant for delaying the One UI 7 for the older generations of Galaxy handsets. However, all of that is now a thing of the past.

After rolling out the Android 15-based One UI 7 update to the last supported flagship Galaxy S21 earlier in the day, Samsung has started pushing the same update to its last supported foldable Galaxy phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. To one’s surprise, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 users in South Korea are reportedly the first to receive the One UI 7 update, as highlighted by famed tipster @tarunvats33.

However, the availability of the One UI 7 update for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 in May doesn’t sound too bad if you’re aware of Samsung’s revised update release schedule, which suggests that these two foldable devices will get the update in May. This early arrival isn’t anything to rejoice about because it has arrived only a few hours before May begins. Since the update will be rolled out in phases, people outside South Korea might actually get the One UI 7 update on their Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Flip 3 phones in May.

However, it’s not all good news for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 users, not all One UI 7 features will be available for these two foldable devices. If you have one of these two devices, you won’t get access to all the Galaxy AI features after installing the One UI 7 update. So, this update is mainly about visual changes for you. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check if the update is available on your Galaxy Z Fold 3/Flip 3.

That’s it for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 came out in 2021 and are eligible for four years of Android OS updates, which means Android 15 is the last major update these two devices will get. These two are also the oldest Galaxy foldable phones to receive the One UI 7 update. However, they will continue to receive those updates for one more year.

Now that the company has started pushing the One UI 7 update to its oldest eligible flagship Galaxy devices, it will shift its focus to tablets and midrange phones. Samsung is confirmed to complete the One UI 7 rollout for these devices by July. The newer your Galaxy, the quicker the One UI 7 update will likely arrive. If you’re not aware whether your midrange Galaxy will get the update, check out all the midrange Galaxy devices eligible to get One UI 7.
