One UI 7 Is Hurting Battery Life On Galaxy S24 And Other Updated Devices For Some

Samsung has finally widely rolled out the long-delayed One UI 7 update, but some Galaxy S24 owners have noticed that battery life is considerably worse, and they don’t seem to be alone.

Reports have popped up across Samsung’s forums, Reddit, and more in the time since One UI 7 landed on the Galaxy S24 series and other devices that suggest there may be a hit to battery life. Users note (via Android Police) that battery life on their devices has dropped compared to the days before updating their devices.

That’s just based on the battery capacity left at the end of the day, with one user seeing their daily total drop from around 45% to as low as 20% by the end of the day on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The story is mirrored elsewhere, with plenty of other users seeing increased battery drain following the installation of One UI 7.

Why the hit?

It’s hard to track down a specific reason, but the sheer size of One UI 7 leaves plenty of room for aspects of the update to cause battery drain. Samsung did delay the update for some undisclosed reason, and it’s entirely feasible to believe that battery drain could have been part of that reason – that’s purely speculation, though.

Of course, these reports are largely anecdotal and are coming after just a couple of weeks of the update being available. Some more time to “settle” along with Samsung’s next monthly patch could help address the situation. Some users claim to have seen improvements. This could also easily be a simple case of a “vocal minority.” While there are quite a few reports of this increased battery drain, Samsung has rolled out One UI 7 to millions of devices over the past few weeks without much fanfare about battery issues. Some users even claim improvements. We found limited reports of battery drain on Galaxy S23 devices, but with just as many people saying the battery life was the same as it was before, if not better.
