Nothing Is Making Over-Ear Headphones And I Can’t Wait [Video]

Nothing has just announced that it will be making a pair of over-ear headphones that will launch very soon, and as a fan of the company’s earbuds, I couldn’t be more excited.

In a video posted to its YouTube channel this morning, Nothing has revealed that it is making a set of over-ear headphones, akin to Apple’s AirPods Max and Sony’s new WH-1000XM6.

Nothing has built its brand in a big way on audio products, but has so far only built earbuds and open-ear buds.

During the video, Nothing’s designers say that they “don’t like a single” option on the market today from a design perspective. They also suggest that in terms of price, they’ll be quite a bit more affordable than others, specifically mentioning the “really expensive” price of AirPods Max. Other tidbits include improving interactions with buttons and making their purpose more clear and intuitive, and says that it will leverage its community to make the product better. Sound quality, as expected, is another key area of focus, saying that they’ll “punch above their weight.”

“I think they’re better than AirPods Max,” one of Nothing’s employees says.

As for a release timeline, Nothing will launch these over-ear headphones “in the Summer,” meaning we’ll probably see them arrive in the next few months. Nothing Phone (3) is expected to launch around July, and putting these products together would make a whole lot of sense, but that’s all speculation for now.

Would you buy over-ear headphones from Nothing?

9to5Google’s Take

Personally, I’m thrilled to hear this.

Nothing already makes what I feel are the best earbuds on the market because they split the difference between price and quality perfectly, which is to say that they sound way better than they should for the price point. Whenever I’m looking to pick up a pair of earbuds, Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (Open) are the first ones I turn to.

Over-ear headphones have always felt like a weird market to me because there are really only two choices. Spend way too much money to get the “full” experience, or save a ton and end up getting something with major compromises. Nothing filled that gap when it came to earbuds, and I cannot wait to see how the same strategy pans out for over-ear headphones.
