New IPads And IPhone SE Could Launch In April

It has been a while since Apple refreshed its iPhone SE lineup. The last time the company released an iPhone SE model was back in 2022. Mark Gurman posted on X that Apple plans to launch the new iPhone SE this April alongside a new iPad.

According to Gurman’s post, he expects Apple will launch both the new iPhone SE and new iPads before iOS 18.4. If this goes according to plan, it should take place by April. This also means that Apple is choosing to launch the new iPhone SE separately from its flagship phones.

The iPhone 17 series is coming later this year, but this April launch suggests Apple wants to keep things separate. According to leaked images, it seems that Apple could reuse the iPhone 14’s design for the iPhone SE 4. It won’t look quite as flashy as the iPhone 14, but the overall design language is the same. There have also been rumors that the handset could actually be named the iPhone 16E.

As for the iPads, Gurman doesn’t specifically mention which iPads are coming. It is possible that he is referring to the base iPad models. The last time Apple refreshed this model was back in 2022, so compared to the rest of the lineup, it is the most likely candidate for an update.

It makes sense that Apple would launch the iPhone SE and iPads together. Both models represent the lower-end side of the company’s products.

It’s been a while

Unlike Apple’s regular iPhones, the iPhone SE isn’t updated on an annual basis. The iPhone SE represents Apple’s “more affordable” iPhone range. Apple introduced the first generation back in 2016. Apple then waited four years before launching the second generation. The 3rd-generation iPhone SE later launched a couple of years later in 2022.

If Gurman’s report is accurate, this means that the launch between the 3rd gen and 4th gen iPhone SE models would be three years. All things considered, it’s not that long. The wait between the first and second-generation models was longer.

It is unclear why Apple takes so long between iPhone SE models. Perhaps Apple wants to keep customers focused on the flagship iPhone models.
