Motorola Confirms Delayed Razr Launch At Verizon Amid Bizarre Rumors

Motorola has confirmed a delayed Razr (2025) launch at Verizon carriers while rumors swirl.

The 2025 Motorola Razr lineup launched on May 15 and was supposed to go on sale through Verizon on that date. The carrier and its MVNOs listed the device, but have since removed it. Verizon no longer lists any of the new Razr models at all on its website.

While no reason has been officially disclosed, the delay has been confirmed. In a statement to 9to5Google, Motorola says:

The availability timeline of the new motorola razr at Verizon was adjusted to ensure the best possible launch experience for their customers. It will be available at Verizon, Straight Talk, Total Wireless and Visible on May 22.

Verizon has since updated its blog post about the Razr launch with this new date.

Why the delay?

There’s no official word on this, but there are some strange, unsubstantiated rumors swirling around. On Reddit, multiple users report that their Razr (2025) pre-orders from Total Wireless were requested to be returned to the sender, with delivery drivers in some cases having to refuse to deliver the package. Another since-deleted thread claims that there’s a “fire hazard” around these devices. Two other alleged Verizon employees claim that devices have been pulled from storefronts and are on “quarantine.” While it can’t be ruled out, there are multiple reasons that this is unlikely.

First and foremost, there’s the simple fact that Verizon and its MVNOs seem to be the only carriers impacted here. Motorola.com, T-Mobile, and AT&T have yet to see the same impact, though, some orders through Motorola’s own website are also apparently being canceled. Then, it’s also worth noting that Verizon is still launching the Razr series on May 22, just three days from now. If fires were remotely in the picture, that’d be a huge gamble on both Motorola’s part and Verizon’s as the fallout would be immense. Adding to this, Verizon, speaking to 9to5Google, said that no Razr (2025) phones had been shipped to customers yet. Only Total Wireless had shipped anything.

We’ll update this post if any further information comes to light. Our post was updated after publication to clarify that rumors of fires are very unlikely to be a part of these bizarre rumors.
